Steep
Today I am going to talk about the game Steep made in 2016 by Ubisoft. The game has had a consistent player base. During October, Steep had an average player base of 133.1 players active and 59.6 players bought the game. I started playing in November, and so far the game looks incredible. The graphics are amazing and overall the game is very immersive. The game is rated teen because of the language, but the rest is all fine. The game is recommended for controllers, so the controls when playing on keyboard and mouse are very strange. If you don’t have a controller this game is still fine. My controller doesn’t work, so I’ve been playing on keyboard and mouse, and the game is still really fun. Some of the mechanics in the game are hard to control, and others feel a little buggy. I also wish there was a gamemode that let you ride down a whole mountain without having to grind for a month. It is available to buy on Epic Games, Steam, or the Ubisoft website. Overall I rate the game a solid 7.5/10.
Fortnite
Fortnite is an exciting battle royale game made by Epic Games in September 2017. The game had the most concurrent players in March 2022, with an estimated 270 million players monthly, and a peak in daily player count of 24.5 million concurrent players. The game became very popular in August 2018 in its “prime.” The game started as a survival game with zombies. What made it special was that you could build walls, stairs, floor, and roofs. When Fortnite was about to be released a new type of game was becoming popular, battle royales. The idea of that type of game is, you are dropped into a giant map with nothing. You have to gather weapons as the map starts to get taken over by a storm. What made Fortnite different from these other battle royales is that in Fortnite, you can build things. People would come up with crazy ways to make bases and forts. The game building feature of the game has gotten much more advanced since the release of the game. One player named TSM Myth created a strategy called a “90.” This strategy involves building walls and ramps while doing 90 degree turns. This strategy became very popular and attracted a lot of players to the game. My thoughts on the game are rather positive. I think for the game being 5 years old and still having a player base of 2.9 to 4 million concurrent players is outstanding. The game also has a lot of updates. One of their more recent ones being the release of Chapter 4 Season 1. There are a lot of new things in this update. The game is in a really nice state with people coming back to play the Zero Build game mode. This mode is my favorite and I think it is really nice for casual players. Overall, Fortnite gets an 8.5/10.
