For some of you who don’t know what climate change is, it is the effect of global warming/ greenhouse gas emissions. The Earth has a huge bubble of carbon dioxide around its surface that keeps oxygen inside of our atmosphere so we can breathe ( also why you can't breathe in space ). Some signs of Climate change are…

  • Temperatures are rising world-wide due to greenhouse gasses trapping more heat in the atmosphere.
  • Droughts are becoming longer and more extreme around the world.
  • Tropical storms becoming more severe due to warmer ocean water temperatures.
  • As temperatures rise there is less snowpack in mountain ranges and polar areas and the snow melts faster.
  • Overall, glaciers are melting at a faster rate.
  • Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean around the North Pole is melting faster with the warmer temperatures.
  • Permafrost is melting, releasing methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere.
  • Sea levels are rising, threatening coastal communities and estuarine ecosystems.

The ways we can prevent climate change: we can save energy by using less electricity, walking, biking, or taking public transport as opposed to driving our own cars. We can eat our veggies instead of meat because meat production is very carbon intensive. Remember when you travel that you are using precious fuel and electricity. We can also recycle, and we can try to use electric cars and vehicles. So take action now to help save our planet! If we all do our part we can mitigate the growing climate disaster.
