What is it?
Have you ever searched something up online, and noticed a piece of art that looked a little off?
Well, that might’ve been a piece of AI art. AI art can be seen in many places, and some pieces can be obvious, while others are a little harder to find, since the AI has evolved so that it makes the art seem more human.
How does it work?
The AI is given a set of data called training data that has many examples of a certain thing. When the AI is given a prompt relating to that training data, it will try to make something new using that training data, though it can end up looking a little off. AI art lacks any creativity without the use of a human and is just a generator following the things it was programmed to do.
Why is it bad?
AI art is bad because it takes away the expression and passion someone puts into their art along with having no message behind it. It’s taking away opportunities for artists who actually put these things into their pieces and is just the result of a prompt that someone put in. AI art is also using the art from other artists without asking for the usage of it, giving no sort of recognition/credit along with not giving them anything for using it as an example. The jobs of artists could be threatened because of this AI art. AI artists are people who firmly believe that AI art is good, and that it does require skill to create it, (even though it’s just the generator that has been given more training data to use.)
How can you know if art is fake or not?
When looking at a piece of art, if you want to see if it is real or not, check if any of the features are off, (hands, eyes, position, proportions or joints.) You can also look at the surroundings and the lighting/shadows to see if there is a light source that shouldn’t be there, (like an extra sun,) or if the shadows are in the wrong places/ not there at all. With the landscape, if you see places that blend in to each other, or don’t make sense with the context of the piece.
